  • Position Summary

    Leads and coordinates the daily workflow in the hospital service areas. Makes effective rounds throughout the hospital to observe patient care, environmental conditions and general atmosphere. Coordinates with department managers to make staffing assignments while managing overtime and unit staffing for all nursing staff based on budget, patient acuity and census on a daily basis.


    Core/Major Duties: 

    • Make staffing assignments for start of shift and new admits
    • Manage the off-hours and weekend patient care activities
    • Respond to all emergency situations, assuring effective response
    • Respond to situations involving patients, unit, staff and visitors and provide a resolution
    • Responsible for coordinating after hours procedures
    • Responsible for doing rounds in all areas of the hospital during shift
    • Supervise staff, assess their needs and identify educational opportunities
    • Manages nursing resources from one are to another to ensuring the effective and safe care of patients
    • Act promptly and decisively to address problems throughout the house

    HIPAA:  This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position based on the following criteria:

    Primary – required (routine) to do the job;
    Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and
    None – no approved access

    Clinical Information (information that describes a patient’s health status): Diagnosis, Reports/Medical Notes, Test Results, Problem List, Procedures, History and Physical
    Coding Information (clinical information that is in (alpha) numeric format): ICD-9 Codes, Rev Codes, CPT Codes


    Current Kansas Registered Nurse License, Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; triage experience required; knowledge of general nursing and practice required.

    Certificates and Licenses:
    Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Kansas;  BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first 30 days of employment; TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) required; ACLS certification required; ENPC or PALS.
